work in progress

I'm working on new work - I love working on 30x40 panels - it seems just the right amount of room - I've thought seriously of painting only on this size for a few months - just 30x40's - but I know me - I will want something else at a very unexpected time - but my, oh, my, I do love this size - the light is slowly changing and leaving our part of the world and I can feel my color choices reflecting that.  A woman who visited my studio during the Open Studio Tour called the colors that show up in many northwest artists work, bruised paintings - I love that!!  I have often used the same word when looking at sections of my work - it appeals to me, I don't know why, but it does.  The work below still is holding alot of white, but the center is showing more of that faded palette.

I started a painting during the studio tour as a demo piece on an old piece of mdf and am still working on it.  I have dropped it so many times now because when I go to pick it up to turn, I grab it like I do my panels that have 1 1/2 or 2 inch sides - basically I'm just grabbing air and smooshing the front of the painting - funny how fast a certain action can become a non thinking action and become one of those robotic moves we incorporate into all parts of our life - the things we JUST do and don't think about -

Other things are underway, but I will share next time - until then.............
